Rubber ducky

It’s been a long time since Aidan had his first bath at the hospital while the nurse taught us how to do it. The first times were tough and he didn’t seem to like it. Especially when we had to re rinse him after putting too much baby shower gel in the tub. After noticing the tub was too big for him we had to give him baths in the kitchen sink for a while. Now he’s finally big enough (or should I say almost too big) to fit in his whale tub and he enjoys greatly EVERY single bath, just as much as we do.

But the one thing that has been with us almost from the beginning and that holds together the family tradition of his bath time is Ernie’s Rubber Ducky song. We never give him a bath without this song and we always sing along :)

Aidan has a song

This is an article that was pending for a looooong time ... sure grandma Norka will be a bit embarrassed but for us it was not only funny but sweet.

When we told my mom the name of his grandson Aidan, she exclaimed: “like the song!?”  And we wondered what song so she sang her way in broken English: Aidan, Aidan ... instead of "Hey now, hey now ..."

The song we knew. The lyrics had nothing to do with what she was thinking. Anyways it stayed Aidan’s song and just as much as that first time we listen to it together, every time I hear it my eyes water as I remember the excitement of that moment, the name of our new little baby and the joy to share him with our family from day one... Venezuela here we go!

Below the official video and a version that I also like.

I leave a picture of Aidan so nobody complaints the post went empty ;)

Having fun at the Y

We’ve been going to the YMCA Family Development Center since Aidan was 8 weeks old. He was the youngest at the center and everybody was impressed I was alive enough to take him there so early. We could afford to go there since he’s been always so “decent” with sleep at night.

The center is a very welcoming and cozy space to share with other babies and toddlers, meet other moms, get tips, share experiences, and help him develop through fun activities.

We completed 8 weeks of the Mother Goose program and learned tons of songs and nursery rhymes. Never thought it was possible! We are now taking infant massage classes for the month of April. Aidan is definitely enjoying that...He falls deep asleep after the class.

The best part about the Y is all the friends that we have both made there :)

PS: Sorry if the pictures are not professional. We don’t carry the fancy camera there, just my phone ;)

Learning to fly

Aidan discovered this weekend that he likes to fly, and he's really good at it! He's got great control of his head, and his back is ramrod straight. It's dangerous business being part of the ground crew, however, as when his mouth opens and the smile comes, soon to follow is drool!

Trying out a toque

Grandpa Don bought Aidan a nice warm toque when he was born, but it was too big for his little head. Now that he's getting bigger, it fits a little better! There's still some room for growth, so hopefully he'll be able to wear it next winter. As you can see from the attempts to roll, this is definitely a high-performance toque!

Daddy makes me laugh

Tim and Aidan enjoy very much spending time together. Tim is so sweet and creative in the way he talks to him and entertains him while feeding him the bottle (which is challenging), changing his diaper (or giving him a fresh bum as he calls it) or just playing for fun or to give mommy some free time. Is a delight to watch them together...

Welcome spring!

Or maybe not yet?

Don't worry. We made it home after all and it seems Aidan enjoyed the little adventure :) Thank goodness for the new all terrain stroller!

Ready to read

This past Sunday we finally got the last piece for our reading set up: a nice bookcase that Daddy picked up from IKEA to hold all the books we have and some toys too. We’ve got tons of books!! Grandma Joanne brought us some when Aidan was born, and Grandma Norka did too but in Spanish, Auntie AK (that’s a bit redundant I guess, maybe we need to rename her GAK?) sent us some from Vancouver, and Aunt Susan sent us some from Hope, BC as well. All of them very special to us. Then Aidan and I registered at the Toronto Public Library close to home and we got tons of baby books including some in Spanish that they ordered specially for us. Aidan seems to enjoy them all as he listens to us and stares at the pictures. We don’t have a favourite yet. It’s hard to pick just one!

Some of them are:

  • Mommy’s best kisses
  • Kisses for Daddy
  • Fábulas para soñar (Stories to dream)
  • Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?
  • Pancakes pancakes!
  • The tiny seed
  • Little cloud
  • From head to toe
  • Goodnight moon
  • Love you forever
  • I heard a little baa
  • Sometimes I like to curl up in a ball
  • The very hungry caterpillar
